If you’re new to Arizona, there are a few things you should know about driving in the state. From the weather conditions to the rules of the road and even no-deductible glass coverage laws in Arizona, here’s what you need to be aware of before hitting the streets.

Follow this advice and our tips, and you’ll be driving like a local in no time.

Arizona Auto Insurance Regulations Drivers Need to Know

Driving in Arizona requires drivers to be knowledgeable about the state’s laws and auto insurance regulations. These regulations ensure you and everyone else on the road are covered in case of an accident.

Arizona requires all drivers to have automobile liability insurance, which includes bodily injury and property damage coverage. Golf carts, motorcycles, and mopeds are also required to have this coverage.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the bare minimum of insurance coverage you should have includes $25,000 for one person’s bodily injury liability and $50,000 for two or more people. Additionally, you must possess at least a coverage limit of $15,000 property-damage liability.

Optional Insurance Coverage & Vehicle Emissions Tests

Additionally, there are other types of optional insurance coverage available depending on a driver’s specific needs, such as comprehensive or uninsured motorist coverage.

All motor vehicles registered within Arizona must also pass an annual vehicle emission test, ensuring compliance with federal standards regarding air pollution.

Staying familiar with local state laws and auto insurance regulations makes driving in Arizona a safe and worry-free experience for all.

No-Deductible Glass Coverage Laws in Arizona

In Arizona, all state insurance companies are required by law to provide policyholders the opportunity to avoid paying a glass deductible if they add Comprehensive coverage as part of their car insurance plan.

That means that if you live in Arizona and choose to add Comprehensive coverage as part of your car insurance plan, your windshield will be covered without having to pay a deductible.

Be Prepared for Extreme Weather Conditions, Both Hot and Cold

Being able to endure extreme weather conditions is a valuable skill, especially when traveling or embarking on a long drive through Arizona.

The weather in Arizona ranges from hot and dry to cold and wet. It’s important to plan ahead and be prepared for anything by packing an emergency kit in case you find yourself in a bind.

In the summer months, temperatures can soar above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. In the summer heat, it’s crucial to protect yourself, your pets, and your car. Regarding your vehicle, experts recommend turning on your car’s air conditioning before you enter it and ensuring your tires are properly inflated.

As the heat intensifies, so does your tire pressure to a point of a potential explosion. Additionally, over-inflating tires can weaken their braking capabilities and cause them to break down prematurely. Keep an eye on your car’s air pressure as temperatures rise.

In the winter months, temperatures can be extremely cold, with varying levels of snowfall, and it’s important to make sure your car is ready for the weather. Be sure to check the battery, tire pressure, and antifreeze levels.

Additionally, keep an eye out for ice and snow on the roadways: Driving cautiously during these months is best.

Watch Out for Wildlife, Especially When Driving at Night

Arizona is home to a variety of wildlife, and it’s important to watch out for them when traveling on the roads.

Animals such as javelinas, deer, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, and bears can be seen wandering around throughout the day or night. It’s important to remain alert at all times, especially when driving at night.

If you see wildlife on or near the road, slow down and give them plenty of room to move out of the way. Never try to approach or feed wild animals, as this can be dangerous for both you and the animal.

Additionally, contact local authorities and your auto insurance provider immediately if a collision occurs with an animal.

Familiarize Yourself with Arizona’s Roadways

Exploring Arizona’s highways and byways can be a great way to get to know the area. Knowing which routes to take before you start your journey can help make things much more enjoyable.

The Confusing Directions of Interstate 10

One of the most important (and confusing) roads to know is Interstate 10.

The I-10 usually stretches east to west across the nation but deviates from that path in Central Arizona, where it runs north to south from Phoenix and Tucson. As you travel north or south, don’t be confused by signs indicating which way to take I-10 East or I-10 West.

Doing some roadway research beforehand will give you insight into how to maximize your time and save yourself from potential traffic headaches. Meanwhile, keep an eye out for things heating up on Interstate 10.

Although there are many tools available, like maps or GPS navigation systems, reading up on the best travel routes is one of the easiest ways to familiarize yourself with unfamiliar terrain.

Drive Defensively and Be Aware of Other Drivers on the Road

Last but not least, no matter the state, it is important to drive defensively. That means being aware of other drivers on the road.

Understand that everyone else on the road, including yourself, makes mistakes, and you should always be prepared.

Defensive driving requires some basic principles, such as:

  • Adjusting your speed accordingly to the traffic conditions
  • Keeping a safe distance behind the car in front of you
  • Using turn signals where appropriate

Obeying all traffic laws is essential in defensive driving to ensure the safety of everyone else on the road.

Maintaining conscientiousness while driving will create a cooler atmosphere and make it easier for others to follow necessary safety precautions.

Enjoy the Open Arizona Roads

Arizona has many roads to explore, and with the right knowledge, you can have a safe and enjoyable journey no matter where you’re headed.

Make sure you familiarize yourself with state laws and regulations and take proper safety precautions while driving in Arizona. This will ensure that you have a stress-free experience while exploring all that Arizona has to offer.

Above all else, use common sense and drive defensively. Always remain mindful of other drivers while on the road. With the right safety measures in place, you’ll surely have an enjoyable experience full of lasting memories.
