The Development of the BIM Software
RADAR CH, the longest continuously sold BIM architectural design program, was first introduced on the Macintosh in 1984. It later evolved into ArchiCAD.

Revit’s advances – parametric families, construction phase control, scheduling, and a visual programming environment – would transform the market. In 2007 AutoDesk also purchased companies such as NavisWorks. Format, an app that allowed the creation of a BIM model on a mobile device, was released in late 2012.
Pro/ENGINEER was released in 1988 and is considered the first commercially available parametric modeling design program in BIM history. BIM engineers typically use the Revit Architecture program but may also use Revit MEP, Revit Structure, and Nevisworks.
