The unstoppable advance of new technologies, together with the cultural transformation that companies are undergoing, are making it possible for new work models to emerge apart from the more traditional ones. Flexible schedules or project work are an example of how work environments are evolving. But if there is a fundamental change, this is the possibility that employees can offer their services from places that are not an office thanks to the implementation of teleworking.
The most extreme case of remote work is ノマド. Who are they? These are employees who carry out their activity completely remotely, often from cities or countries other than where their company is headquartered, often without a fixed residence.
Work while traveling: a dream come true
It is no surprise that travel is one of the motivations of the new generations. That is why the geographical mobility that this working formula allows them is especially attractive for them, an interesting characteristic for those eager for constant changes.
And what are the workplaces most chosen by digital nomads? At a general level, they usually have three characteristics: good weather, affordable cost of living and good internet connections. The list of countries is varied, but those from South America, Southeast Asia, and South Europe stand out. In fact, Spain is among the first positions at an international level, with large cities, such as Barcelona and Madrid, to more paradisiacal destinations, such as Tarifa or the Canary Islands.
However, not all digital nomads fit this international profile. In Spain, more and more young people are opting for these forms of work to return to their places of origin, many of them in rural environments, where they live with less stress and at a lower cost than in the big cities.
What do you need to be a digital nomad?
The truth is that there are profiles that are more suited to this lifestyle. Programmers, digital marketing professionals, graphic designers or translators are some of those who adapt more easily to the characteristics of digital nomads. Learn ノマドとは
But before embarking on the adventure, it is convenient to take into account a series of tips:
- Get a good work team, since this will be the guarantee to be able to maintain the continuity of your service. But since nothing is indestructible, always work in the cloud to avoid losing valuable information in the event of an incident.
- Hire good health insurance, especially if you plan to travel abroad. In this way, and taking into account the differences that exist in terms of international healthcare, you will ensure that you have coverage in the event of a health problem.
- Take advantage of the flexibility to your advantage, since you will have to adapt to the hours or needs of the team you work for, why not make the most of it? Thus, it is more than seeking to reconcile professional and personal life, integrating both facets to get the most out of both.
- Look for a pleasant workspace, since it will be the place where you spend a large part of your time. Although sometimes you have to improvise, it is advisable to look for a place that invites concentration and creativity. It is not in vain that the workplace is a factor that the new generations consider very relevant to carry out their work.
Exploring the possibility of offering digital nomad positions can be a good strategy for companies that want to attract and retain new generations.
Digital Nomad Entrepreneur
It is the type of digital nomad who has businesses or projects that can be managed from a distance, they can really be any type of project, the key is that they can work without a digital presence.
I fall into this type of nomad since all my businesses are 100% digital and can be managed from a distance. In my case, which is dedicated to electronic commerce, 90% of the process is completely digital and the other 10% of the process is delegated to employees who are in Mexico and help me with the manual of the company.
It is very important to note that not all entrepreneurial digital nomads are dedicated to electronic commerce, I have met people who have cyber security companies, and branding agencies, give courses through the internet, etc. As I say, there is no single way to do things.
Employed Digital Nomad
Now let’s talk a little about those who are interested in this lifestyle, but are dedicated to something that can be freelance and do not want to complicate their existence by setting up their own business. Can they be nomads too? Of course!
If the coronavirus taught us anything, it is that practically everything can be done virtually, which is why it is increasingly common to see large companies offer 100% remote job vacancies.
Unlike a few years ago, it is perfectly possible to work in a company full time without going to the office or living in a specific city. You have the freedom of the digital nomad, with the security of receiving a salary every month.
