Pregnancy is a beautiful time that every woman looks forward to. It’s also one of the most critical periods in her life, with multiple risks. Keeping yourself in good health during this phase is essential if you wish to have a smooth delivery and an even smoother pregnancy. So, here are 5 pregnancy care tips that will help you stay safe during your nine months.

Decide the Right Time to Conceive

Deciding to start a family is a big milestone, so it’s important to choose the right time. To be sure, you should know yourself well enough to decide when you are ready for children. Many assume that becoming pregnant is easy for them because they are young and healthy. 

Remember that there is no “right” age to have babies. Some couples wait until after their 30th birthday before starting their families with great success. However, there is no guarantee that this will always happen even if both partners follow all protocols religiously.

Have a Healthy Weight

If you are pregnant for the first time, it’s easy to feel like everyone around you has a better handle on their body than you do. But no matter your size, there are ways to get healthy and stay healthy throughout your pregnancy. According to Jama Network Open, obesity is one of the leading obstetric comorbidities that affects 29% of pregnant women.

Pregnancy weight gain is different for every woman, but doctors state that most women gain between 25-35 pounds during pregnancy, and only about one-quarter of this weight should be fat. For example, if your pre-pregnancy weight is 150 lbs and your doctor recommends gaining 30 pounds while pregnant, you would need to add 6 pounds of fat.

Also, remember that even if you aren’t overweight before becoming pregnant, gaining too much can increase complications later on down the road. Especially with delivery procedures such as cesarean sections or having large babies due to excess maternal fat stores being available for baby growth.

Take Regular Medications Only Under a Doctor’s Guidance

Pregnancy is a time of great excitement and anticipation, but it also comes with its fair share of worries and concerns. One thing new mothers have to be especially careful about is taking medications during pregnancy. It’s important to remember that not all medications are safe for pregnant women. Therefore, you must only take those prescribed by your doctor.

However, some medications are not safe for pregnant women to take. These include acetaminophen (Tylenol), common cold, and flu over-the-counter medicine. The Tylenol Autism Lawsuit is a case that was brought before the courts in 2011 by parents of children who had been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

These parents claimed that their children’s condition was caused by exposure to acetaminophen, an active ingredient in Tylenol. The lawsuit stated that acetaminophen causes ASD and that its use should be restricted to pregnant women and children under 12. It also claimed that Johnson & Johnson should have known about the dangers of acetaminophen and warned consumers about them.

Eat the Right Food and Do Exercise Regularly

To stay healthy during your pregnancy, you must ensure that you eat a healthy balanced diet. According to Hopkins Medicine, 300 calories are required daily for a healthy pregnancy. It is advisable not to eat foods that are high in fat and sugar as this can lead to weight gain. Also, it is crucial to avoid junk food and too much caffeine as well as alcohol consumption because these can lead to health problems for both you and your baby.

Another important thing is regular exercise, as this will help keep you fit during pregnancy. However, do note that it may not be safe for some women with conditions such as gestational diabetes or heart disease. So, they should consult their doctor before starting an exercise program.

Stay Calm and Stress-Free

When pregnant, it’s important to remember that stress can harm your baby. Stress can cause miscarriage, premature birth, and low birth weight. Stress is linked to preterm labor in pregnant women. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by what’s going on around you or if things are especially stressful at work or home, try some of these tips:

  • Take deep breaths and focus on relaxing activities such as meditation or yoga.
  • Find time for yourself each day so that no matter how busy things get around the house or office, you still have time for yourself.
  • Organize your schedule so that any new tasks are done first thing in the morning when everyone else is still sleeping.

You Can Have a Safe Pregnancy Even in the Later Stages of Age

Though many people think that pregnancy is only for women in their 20s and 30s, the fact is that it’s possible to have a healthy pregnancy even in the later stages of age. According to the CDC, during 2020-2021, the birth rate declined for women aged between 15-24 years and increased for women between 25-44 years.

Pregnancy is not just for women in their 20s and 30s. Some complications may indeed be more common at this stage, but if you take care of your health before you get pregnant, there are no reasons why you can’t experience a safe pregnancy.

Taking care of your health before getting pregnant will make all the difference when it comes to having a safe pregnancy. Getting good nutrition, exercising regularly, and staying on top of any medical conditions will help ensure that this chapter in your life goes smoothly.
