The moment you look at your most handy wood board and realize that it’s not so wonderful for parties any longer is a difficult one for cheeseboard collectors, since we’ve all been there. Splinters and microorganisms might be lurking in fissures on the once-beautiful surface, which is now riddled with cuts and roughness.
We’ve learnt a thing or two about how to properly care for and store a beautiful wooden board because of the attention our plates get in culture. Clean and preserve your large charcuterie board with these spring cleaning methods. As a result, all you have to do when it’s snack time is fill the container with treats.
Clean
Use warm water and a little amount of mild dishwashing solutions, then gently scrub with a soft sponge in circular movements. To remove persistent stains, avoid using an abrasive dishwashing scrubber and instead use a stiff dish brush to apply lengthy strokes.
Disinfect
White vinegar is an excellent, low-cost sanitizer since it is non-toxic. Apply a 2:1 solution of water and vinegar on both sides. Mix 2 teaspoons of bleach with 1 gallon of water to get a stronger solution. Apply the mixture, let it set for a few minutes, and then rinse it off with water. Do not immerse the board in water.
Deodorize
Your cheese may have a moldy scent, but your cutting board might be OK. Spray everything with a thick paste made of 1 cup baking soda mixed with 2 teaspoons of water. The combination may be removed by covering the board in white vinegar and waiting a few minutes.
A coarse salt (we like kosher) and a half-lemon, cut side down, pressing gently to extract some juice, may be used instead of vinegar if you choose. Cleanse once the dirt has been removed
Dry
This is the only step that is absolutely essential. A dry cloth or paper towel may be used to wipe the board once it has been cleaned and disinfected. To minimize warping or splitting, you want the wood to absorb as little water as possible.
Service
Apply edible mineral oil on both sides of the Royal Craft Wood wooden cheese boards with a soft cloth or paper towel when the board is clean and dry. Allow it to soak for at least a few hours, if not all night, before using. Before using, wipe off any excess.
Not every time you wash your board, but once a month is ideal if possible. As a result, the surface will be silky smooth and water will not be able to penetrate it.
A few more steps
If your board is still a bit rough, use a very fine sandpaper to smooth it down a little more. Clean and oil the surface after using gentle circular movements to apply a fresh layer.
Do it manually at all times
The cheese board should never be washed in the dishwasher. Wood may be damaged by high temperatures and harsh detergents. Avoid soaking the board in water as well.
Keep the cheese board for nibbles and a separate cutting board for raw meat, if you have the option. When blood is exposed to porous wood, bacteria and smells flourish. Do not skip the disinfection procedures above if you need to use a whiteboard with others.
